Final Missouri Valley Conference Player WAR Rankings

(I will be crunching the numbers and giving complete player rankings for EVERY D1 conference, using conference only stats and win/loss results as each conference regular season ends. The “write ups” will follow pretty similar formats, since I don’t really have the time to spend much time with each write up. Will obviously tweet out results as usual as soon as each post is up. At the end of each conference write up, I will try to include links to all conference write ups that have already been posted – and maybe an ETA for the next conference.)

The MVC is a bit of a weird conference in terms of player production, players with big box score numbers are few & far between. Jaylon Brown came close to 20 ppg while playing huge minutes – and lost 12 conference games. Alize Johnson was the one guy who put up big rebound numbers – and lost 11 conference games. The best player in the conference was south of 14 ppg, 7 rpg, 1 spg, & 1 bpg. Go figure.

Player of the Year: Deontae Hawkins of Illinois State, #1 in Wins Above Replacement (3.8) & WAR/40 (5.7). Landry Shamet of Wichita State is really his only competition, #1 in HnI (153).

Players who topped the conference in something or another in terms of rating subsets:

(value is in “Points Added” to average conference lineup per 70 possessions)

Landry Shamet of Wichita State: #1 in Handles/Passing Rating (Assists & Turnovers, +4.3 PA)

Alize Johnson of Missouri State: #1 in Rebound Rating (+4.8 PA)

Bennett Koch of Northern Iowa: #1 in overall Scoring Rating (+10.7 PA) Free Throw Production Rating (+5.3 PA)
